The Different Causes of Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that is not very properly understood. The precise cause is not known. This notwithstanding, different medical researchers have pointed out possible factors as causes of rosacea but none of these seems to be present in every case of rosacea. Some of the factors that have been cited as possible causes of rosacea include psychogenic factors, vitamin deficiencies, Demodex folliculorum mites, Helicobacter Pylori infestation, genetic factors, overexposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays, genetic factors, dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease, certain foods, gastric hypochlorhydria, seborrhea, diseases of the endocrine system, microcirculatory disturbances, hepatopathy, etc. Some of these causes of rosacea will be discussed briefly here below

HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFESTATION: some researchers have cited a possible correlation between the infection by the H. Pylori bacteria and rosacea. H. Pylori are bacteria that affect the intestinal and stomach walls and can cause of ulcers. Untreated H. pylori infection is believed to cause other health problems among them Rosacea. Some other studies have shown no link between H. pylori and rosacea. Even though most persons that are suffering from rosacea have positive H. Pylori test, treating the H. pylori does not cause decrease or eradication of the rosacea symptoms.

Demodex Folliculorum: the Demodex folliculorum infestation has been cited as one of the possible causes of rosacea. These mites live on the skin of human being and they consume those cells that are cast off. Research has shown that rosacea patients have higher numbers of Demodex folliculorum than the healthy patients. The discrepancy that exists is; is the increase in Demodex folliculorum in the rosacea patients the cause or effect of the rosacea? This discrepancy is yet to be resolved.

Disorders of the nervous or vascular system: some researchers have cited vascular disorders as the possible causes of rosacea. The premise is based on the fact that rosacea is closely associated with visible blood vessels, redness of the skin and flushing. Others cite nervous system disorders as possible causes of rosacea because the stressed persons seem to have severe rosacea. This has also been challenged because not all patients with nervous or vascular disorders suffer from rosacea.

CERTAIN FOODS, DRINKS and BEVERAGES: some certain types of foods, drinks and beverages are believed by some researchers to be the possible causes of rosacea. These include fatty foods, foods that are very high in histamine, dairy products, alcohol, spicy foods, etc.

Based on the foregoing, it reasonable to conclude that there are very many discrepancies on the cited or alleged causes of rosacea. None of the causal factors seems to be common in all the rosacea patients. It is believed that various factors either acting singly or simultaneously cause or play some or in the development of the condition. It should be noted that ROSACEA CANNOT BE CURED but can only be treated so as to reduce or get rid of symptoms.

Because the exact causes of rosacea are yet to be known, patients should not stress themselves with the thoughts of trying to find out what could have caused the condition. The patients should consult a doctor and then undergo the right treatment that should include avoiding the factors that can cause or increase the intensity and severity of the rosacea symptoms.
